My final project for my Educational Technology college course is a lesson that I have chosen to be based on 4th grade geometry and more specifically, lines of symmetry. I chose to do geometry because I am a math major and geometry was always one of my favorite topics in grade school. My lesson includes my students going outside with iPads and taking pictures of objects they find that have symmetry to them. They will then print off their pictures and draw in the lines of symmetry.
Below are some great resources to use for teaching symmetry.

- How you might use it in your final project:
- I would start with this interactive website as an introduction or a reminder on the topic of symmetry.
- What standards does the resource address:
- G.A.1 ( Level C (4–5) ): Draw points, lines, line segments, rays, angles (right, acute, obtuse), and perpendicular and parallel lines. Identify these in two-dimensional figures.
- CCSS.Math.Content.2.G.A.1 ( Grade 2 ): Recognize and draw shapes having specified attributes, such as a given number of angles or a given number of equal faces. Identify triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons, and cubes.
CCSS.Math.Content.4.G.A.3 ( Grade 4 ): Recognize a line of symmetry for a two-dimensional figure as a line across the figure such that the figure can be folded along the line into matching parts. Identify line-symmetric figures and draw lines of symmetry.

- How you found it:
- I found this on Pinterest. I am on Pinterest all of the time and it is a large part of my PLN.
- How you might use it in your final project:
- There are some great pictures and cards in this Unit that deal with symmetry and I would love to use it at the beginning of my lesson to go over what types of real world objects that are not symmetrical.
- What standard does the resource address:
- CCSS.Math.Content.4.G.A.1:
Draw points, lines, line segments, rays, angles (right, acute, obtuse), and perpendicular and parallel lines. - How you found it:
- Google search- "4th grade symmetry video" and I came across a list of YouTube videos that fit what I was looking for. I liked this one the best because of the song and the three different types of symmetry that was mentioned.
- How you might use it in your final project:
- I will use it as the "grab" of my lesson to get their attention. I will play the video first to get them interested in the topic.
